Metro-Area Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Linn County Regional Planning Commission is currently in the process of updating the Metro-Area's 2003 Hazard Mitigation Plan. Hazard Mitigation Plans encourage communities to take a closer look at their public safety, reduce dependency on disaster assistance, and breaks the cycle of "build, disaster, build". The goals of the 2007 Hazard Mitigation Plan will be the identification of mitigation activities, which if implemented, will reduce the impact of natural or man-made hazards; and to complete the plan to FEMA standards, making participating jurisdictions eligible for pre- and post-disaster grants.

Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Program (from FEMA's web site). The Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Program was authorized by §203 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Assistance and Emergency Relief Act (Stafford Act), 42 USC, as amended by §102 of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. Funding for the program is provided through the National Pre-Disaster Mitigation Fund to assist States and local governments (to include Indian Tribal governments) in implementing cost-effective hazard mitigation activities that complement a comprehensive mitigation program.
